I thought it best to start with a brief overview of our 19 Spanish speaking countries along with some interesting facts.
Argentina
Capital: Buenos Aires
Known for their Tango, famous soccer player Lionel Messi and of course the Marxist Revolutionist Che Guevara.
Bolivia
Capital: Sucre
Named after Simon Bolivar who led Bolivia along with Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru and Colombia to their independence in 1852. Known for their amazing cable car ride in La Paz, Bolivia.
Chile
Capital: Santiago
Chile has about 2,000 volcanoes and 36 are currently active. In 2010, 33 miners were caved in 2,300 ft underground and were rescued 69 days later.
Colombia
Capital: Bogotá
Colombia is really known for their delicious coffee and has one of the most famous myths known as, "El Dorado".
Costa Rica
Capital: San José
Costa Rica is known for their beautiful forest and amazing nature filled environment. They all so have a phrase that means to live life to the absolute fullest, "Pura Vida".
Cuba
Capital: Havana
Cuba is very well known for their communist government and the Castro brothers.
Dominican Republic
Capital: Santo Domingo
The Dominican Republic is known for their bachata and amazing travel destinations along with baseball.
Ecuador
Capital: Quito
Ecuador is known for the Galapagos Island, it is also near the equator which means that there weather is consistent all year round.
El Salvador
Capital: San Salvador
El Salvador is known as the land of the volcanoes, it is also the only country in central America that does not have a coastline. Sadly they also have many children that went missing during their civil war who are still, "missing".
Guatemala
Capital: Guatemala City
Guatemala has had the longest Civil War which lasted 36 years. There is around 21 Mayan languages still spoken in Guatemala.
Honduras
Capital: Tegucigalpa
Honduras has famous mayan ruins known as, "The town of Copán Ruinas"
Mexico
Capital: Mexico City
Mexico is known for their production of Tequila along with their Mariachi. Mexico is also the 11th most populated country in the world.
Nicaragua
Capital: Managua
Nicaragua has two coasts each boarding a different ocean. Nicaragua is also the oldest city in Latin America founded in 1542.
Panama
Capital: Panama City
Panama's currency is the US dollar. There is also a rainforest within the capital that is fast to get to.
Paraguay
Capital: Asunsión
Paraguay's nickname is known as, "The Heart of America". Panama also has the 2nd longest river right after the Amazon River.
Peru
Capital: Lima
Peru is famous for the Inca Empire where many people visit to get a sense of what life was when the indigenous lived freely.
Spain
Capital: Madrid
Spain although not technically a part of the Latinx community also speak spanish and will be mentioned at times throughout this blog.
Uruguay
Capital: Montevideo
Around 95% of electricity is from renewable energy making Uruguay one of the most eco-friendly countries.
Venezuela
Capital: Caracas
Venezuela is sadly going under an "Economic War". Hugo Chavez served for 11 years without interruption.
